I try to force myself to paInt In new ways.’ Andy Brown Story by Annie Narae Lee / Photos by Dohee Angela Kim T he moment you enter artist Andy Brown’s apartment, you are greeted by colors from all corners. Small to large canvases line the walls, quilts hang over furniture and piles of sketches are scattered over his table. Just steps away from the busy streets of Itaewon, his apartment is a quiet, colorful space hidden away, perfect for an artist’s abode. Understanding Andy Brown in a niched identity is difficult. As an artist who loves toying with different media, Brown is un- restricted and free to roam any creative territory he wishes to explore. Over the years, the 34-year-old travel- er has made use of whatever medium is within his reach — pinhole photography, patchwork, painting and, most recently, his Samsung tablet. Brown pushes through from the echoes of the work that shot him to fame 12 years ago: portraits of the British Queen using teabags. It is undoubtedly his most identifiable work, having catapulted him into his fame with recognition from the BBC, and even a letter from the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting. & inspiration identi ty Edited by Emilee Jennings (emilee@groovekorea.com) muSIC & ARTS
